ON VERGE OF EIGHT-A-SIDE LEAGUE ENTRY

31 JULY 09 - The RedBACKS' look
set to enter the Islington & Hackney 8-a-side
League from September according to team sources. A
team spokesman said: "We've expressed an strong
interest in joining this league as we believe good
honest competition is what the girls want, and it suits
our needs."
Reports indicate the 10-week league will feature up to
eight north, east and central London based sides,
playing 50-minute matches.
"We assume that if they're going to squeeze that
many teams and that many games into 10-weeks, then we
may end up playing two games in one day - but we would
like to see the format before fully committing."

05 JUNE 09 - The RedBACKS' are
in talks with an established league side with a view of
creating a football partnership. The deal could in
effect see the RedBACKS adding three additional
Cup competitions to its proposed 2009/10 season
schedule. A team spokesman said: "Talks are
underway and there is an agreement in principle -
details need to be ironed out and we'll forge ahead from
there."
It is believed that floodlit stadium football is also
part of the arrangement which would see the RedBACKS
providing players and coaching support for the as-yet
unnamed partner team. The link is one of many brokered
by the Sport Islington
supported RedBACKS -
it announced a link-up with London Metropolitan
University in May.
"We aim to provide as many football-playing
opportunities to women and girls as possible, and at
the rate we're attracting players we need to provide
more 'quality' outlets and chances."

HOPING TO ENGINEER ARUP PARK UPSET

08 JUNE 09 - The RedBACKS' first Summer Season
outing looks set to be an interesting affair. The
encounter against women's works-team ARUP, a
Camden-based engineering firm is scheduled for 11 June
will be the first 'team' outing for this summers' newbie
RedBACKS. A team spokesperson said: "We're
blooding our newbies against an experienced group that
play in a regular 5-a-side league. But we'll use the
freedom of the whole Park Futsal environment to
engineer a surprise of our own."

BRAVE STORMS
15 JUNE 09 - The RedBACKS.
faithful braved torrential rain to keep Monday night Park
Futsal going. A team spokesman said: "I think
the girls got bored waiting for it to stop
bucketing-down and our coach to stop promising it was
passing shower. In the end they just got on with
it."
The session which attract newbies each week had to be
extended after a rain delayed start. "The new girls
must have thought us mad!"

EN ROUTE TO UK

JUNE 09 - Janine Botha is reported to be en route to the UK and
heading for the RedBACKS. The 6'11 goalkeeper
(pictured left) has reportedly been in talks with RedBACKS
management and a deal could be in the offing. A team
spokesperson said: "It would be a boost to have
somewhere of her quality for season 2009/10."

STRIKE A THREAT
02 JUNE 09 - The RedBACKS' first game of the Summer Season
scheduled for 11 June could be derailed by striking TUBE workers. The
Spiders were due to play Camden-based engineering firm ARUP in a
six-a-side Park encounter, but industrial action could put paid to those
ideas.

HEIN-NESS HEADS HOME
29 JUNE 09 - Washington State striker Katie Hein
signed-off the RedBACKS' roster to head home to the US via New
Zealand. The LondonMet University exchange student said: "It's been a
blast!"
